Working from the maximum city, Mumbai, India, Samira is an architect, teacher, writer and editor. She is an alumnus of JJ School of Architecture and has a Masters in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Chicago. With an uncompromising sense of ethics and passion for design, she established Samira Rathod Design Atelier in 2000. Since the last 24 years, SRDA has built an enviable portfolio of more than 100 architectural and interior projects as well as over 300 pieces of furniture that remind us of the meaning of beauty, sensuousness and materiality. She was awarded the Arc Vision Prize, Italy in 2015 and has been invited to deliver lectures at various platforms such as the CSMVS Museum in Mumbai, Cornell University in New York and institutes. She was most recently a member of the jury for the Dezeen Awards 2025 in London.

The firms outreach work is equally vigorous and she is the founder and editor of Spade, a platform and design magazine under the aegis of The Shifting Gaze Foundation. Through the foundation, she commissions research regularly and looks at diverse areas of design discourse.
